We have not mystery-shopped either retailer, tested fulfilment times or assessed customer service from a single order.

What the snapshot shows: The Fragrance Shop led on these particular bottles when checked, but that is not proof it is always cheaper. The Perfume Shop was advertising member reductions on selected lines, while The Fragrance Shop’s product and membership pricing can also change. Memberships: free club or paid discount?
The Perfume Shop: a low-friction free membership
The Perfume Club is free to join. Current terms describe free standard delivery for registered UK members, member promotions and 10% off a selected favourite brand for 12 months, with exclusions and restrictions on combining offers. Points expire under the programme terms, so a large balance is not permanent value.
This is the simpler choice for someone buying one or two gifts a year. There is no annual fee to recover, and free standard delivery can matter on smaller orders that do not meet the non-member threshold.
The Fragrance Shop: stronger headline savings with an annual fee
Current MyTFS terms state a £15 annual plan introduced in September 2025, providing a 20% discount subject to exclusions and fair use, plus free UK express delivery and access to offers. The shop also advertises samples on qualifying purchases, subject to stock.
The arithmetic is straightforward: do not count “20% off” as a saving until the annual fee has been recovered. A frequent buyer can cross that point quickly; a person buying one inexpensive bottle may not.

Delivery claims should be checked again at checkout, especially for engraving, remote postcodes and bank holidays. If the perfume is a dated gift, the reliable choice is the service with enough margin rather than the most optimistic cut-off.
Samples, engraving and gifting
Both retailers lean heavily into gifting. The useful differences are not decorative wrapping alone but whether a recipient can try first, whether engraving makes the bottle non-returnable, and how quickly local collection is available.
The Fragrance Shop marks selected products with “Try It First” and advertises samples on qualifying purchases. Availability is product- and stock-dependent. The Perfume Shop offers engraving on selected bottles and free member delivery, which can be convenient for gifts. Personalised or engraved products are generally excluded from change-of-mind returns at both retailers, so check spelling, bottle size and concentration before confirming.
Returns: perfume has a hygiene seal
A sealed fragrance bought online is not the same as a bottle already sprayed. Both retailers restrict change-of-mind returns once seals are broken or the product has been used, while statutory rights still apply to faulty, damaged or misdescribed goods. In our three-bottle snapshot, The Fragrance Shop displayed lower non-member prices, but promotions are too fluid to turn that into a permanent verdict.
